Thailand Metabolomics Society (TMS)

A brief history of the Thailand Metabolomics Society (TMS)

The Thailand Metabolomics Society (TMS) was initiated in 2017 by researchers from Mahidol University Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) at the Metabolomics Society’s 13th Annual Conference in Brisbane, Australia. Based on this concept, representatives from each institution suggested holding a conference to discuss their metabolomics research and other related topics. This will allow academics from various Thai universities, research institutions, and beyond to communicate and collaborate, sharing knowledge and expertise while also discussing their research interests. The conference has been held annually for the past five years, spanning from 2017 to 2023. The TMS was officially established on 13-02-2019, with the first group of membership comprising of Mahidol University, Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, Khon Kaen University, and the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

The inaugural TMS ceremony took place at the Shiva Meeting Room, located on the 3rd Floor of the Asawin Grand Convention Hotel, on Friday, October 27, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Following the successful meeting, many researchers from across Thailand have joined the TMS, including the Faculty of Medicine from Prince of Songkla University, Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (VISTEC), and others. This expansion underlines TMS’s commitment to encompassing a broad range of disciplines and institutions, promoting a collaborative approach to metabolomics research that leverages the unique strengths of each member.
